chARTer~ TECH is a non-profit, public high school for the performing arts. We offer five majors in our school: Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Dance, Theatre, and TV/Film/Animation. Any New Jersey high school student may apply for enrollment. The chARTer ~TECH PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) is looking forward to our first annual BBQ cook off, which we hope will be a major fundraiser for our school. This event is sanctioned by the KCBS(Kansas City BBQ Society) and the Atlantic City Race Course in Mays Landing, NJ has generously donated the location for our event. Our festival is titled, “The Art of BBQ” and will begin with professionals arriving at 9am on Friday, May 30th. There is an amateur contest for backyard BBQ’ers on Friday, May 30th 10am-6pm (no general admittance). The main event will be the professional competition, which will bring cooking teams from all over the country, held on Saturday, May 31st, gates will be open to the public between 10am-6pm. A Battle of the Bands (local high school and college bands) will provide entertainment throughout the day. All proceeds will be used to support academic and artistic student programs at chARTer-TECH. We are looking for your help, for volunteers, sponsorships and gifts from local businesses and individuals. Sponsorships of over $200 for Personal Contributions or $500.00 for Business or Corporate Sponsors will each receive a mention in our event program and a T-shirt naming you or your company as a chARTer member since this is our first year.
We are looking for qualified KSBS Judges for our professional event on Saturday, judges for the Backyard BBQ amateur event on Friday and the Choice Dessert Competition which is also on Saturday.

You have probably seen KCBS sanctioned BBQ’s events covered by the Food Network and most major networks on television. If you would like more information about our contest, please go to www.theartofbbq.com if you would like to see about other contests in other areas, please go to www.KCBS.us. We are expecting more than 5,000 people at this event. But since this is our first year we cannot accurately project the size. Other contests bring in up to 50,000 people. The Atlantic City Race Course is within eyeshot of the rear entrances of Hamilton Mall, Macys, JC Pennys and Sears. We have the space to have over 100 teams to compete, but we will be limiting our size to 40 teams this year. The only other KCBS events in New Jersey are held in North Wildwood and Freehold during the summer months. Please encourage everyone you talk to sign up early so that our event is a sell out.
